Classical Contemporary Dance Hi From Us Hip Hop Jazz Tap Workshops

Are you a Triple Threat Performer???

September 14, 2020

For the October long weekend close out the holidays with a three day workshop with some great Australian performers that find themselves with some extra time on their hands thanks to the Covid Restrictions.  This is one of those rare positive outcomes as a direct result of the shut down of the Performing Arts Industry at the moment.  All classes will be held at Studio 53, Mackay.

Pengelly Productions presents a long weekend of Masterclasses, for ages 7 & over, in all dance genres and Q & A sessions with current Industry professionals culminating in an On-line Virtual Performance.  While it is encouraged that participants take all classes offered for their age group each day, it is possible to only attend one genre ie Tap or Musical Theatre by contacting the organiser directly.

This is a phenomenal opportunity to have an intensive immersion into all genres of Performing Arts, with a collection of industry professions rarely found assembled outside of the capitol cities.

All classes have been capped at 20 students

Full refunds are guaranteed should the event cancel due to any changes in the state governments rules due to Covid-19 health regulations and advice.

Don’t delay!  Book Now to avoid disappointment!!

Dale has been a leading light in the Australian and international theatre scene spanning over three decades.

His career started brilliantly with the young Dale being accepted into the prestigious Australian Ballet School in Melbourne. Having studied with such Australian greats – Steven Heathcote, Paul Mercurio and David Macallister.  Dale went on to Queensland Ballet, where he became not only a featured soloist, but partnered with Rosetta Cook – one of the most celebrated and enduring partnerships Australian ballet has ever seen.

Dale’s passion for theatre was not just restricted to dance, he then stepped into musical theatre in the biggest way Australia had ever seen, in the phenomenon that was ‘Hot Shoe Shuffle’, a production that took him all the way to London’s West End.  ‘As the World Goes Round’, was Dale’s choreographic debut, with Todd McKenney, Maria Mercedes and Jodie Gillies at the Sydney Opera House.

Dale has performed in many Australian Musicals.

Classical Dance Hi From Us Workshops

Stretch when it gets Chilly . . .

July 11, 2018
The weather is turning slowly and we are all feeling the chill in the air. Most dream of cosy evenings in front of a fire, tucked up on the sofa, cuppa in hand.

A warm start is what is needed each day before entering the classroom….a warm up of the body and mind.

It is essential to slowly warm up the body and its muscles before starting your lesson as this prepares it to tackle the physical activity of the tasks ahead as well as helping prevent risk of injury.

A proper warm up:

  • Raises muscle core temperature which makes movement feel easier.
  • Increases endurance and speed
  • Causes blood vessels to dilate which aids the transportation of oxygen and nutrients to the working  muscles.
  • Increases your range of motion by heating the synovial fluid (lubricating fluid) in your joints, improving flexibility.
  • Warms you up mentally thereby increasing motivation and focus, improve technique, skill and coordination.

So do yourself a favour and make sure you are properly prepared for your lesson each day. Your body will thank you.

When is your next Workshop?

June 4, 2018

For young aspiring dancers there is nothing more productive than a solid and well-rounded dance workshop.

Attending a Workshop means becoming stronger, learning new ways to approach your dancing, staying fit throughout the holidays, experiencing new teachers and best of all making new friends and wonderful, everlasting memories.  Of course in the lead up to examinations consolidating existing knowledge and hard earned skills but also gaining new knowledge and new skills and/or new efficient ways of implementing them is tantamount to achieving a good mark within the examination room.

Important in achieving this is to choose a good solid workshop with quality teachers. Different teachers bring a fresh new outlook to your dance and this in turn can help you find that “Aha!” moment when it all clicks into place.

This month of June we have International Dance Affair hosting an RAD Vocational Workshop with Heidi Landford from the Prue Bowen Atelier right here at Studio 53 Mackay from June 8th – 10th.   Also at Studio 53 Mackay and in the School holidays from July 9th – 13th, Jan Millard will be hosting an RAD Graded and Vocational Workshop with RAD Examiner Mrs Jan Mills-Smith and Miss Nicole Galea.

Both of these workshops last year proved to be both enjoyable and beneficial for the students so definitely two workshops not to be missed!

Don’t forget . .  it’s not all about syllabus work.   Improving your interpretation, performance quality and general technique will all show through when you finally do get to your exams – so make the most of every opportunity when it comes your way.  Queensland Ballet is hosting a master class to be taken by Rian Thompson, former student of Theatre Arts Mackay.   It will held from 4.30-6:00pm on June 20, prior to the evening performance of Swan Lake at the MECC.  After taking class, go see the performance – the art of learning through observation is a valuable skill for a dancer and should be considered a fundamental part of your training.

Master Class: With Rian Thompson  Where: The Lynette Denny Space, at the MECC   When: June 2, 4.30-6:00 Cost: $35.00

Tapatak Oz is returning with the incomparable Christine Denny & Adam Blanch !

April 7, 2018

It is with great excitement that we welcome Tapatak Oz back to Studio 53 for their annual workshop April 14th – 16th and this year’s workshop is shaping up to be extra special as it also features the opportunity for local studios, their teachers and their students to work with Australia’s super star contemporary teacher and choreographer Adam Blanch.

Adam is currently in demand all over Australia for his teaching, choreography and coaching of elite classical ballet and contemporary dancers, which sees him working with Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching, Ev & Bow and ED5 International, as well as running his own exclusive training programme “ Advanced Contemporary Technique with Adam Blanch” – which runs in Sydney. Adam also choreographs and coaches students for the prestigious “ Youth America Grand Prix”.

This is such an incredible opportunity for local dancers and we can not wait to have the work shop in full swing.  You can see more about Adam here: https://www.adamblanch.net/home/

Of course the Tapatak Oz Workshop will be running alongside this event, with local Mackay girl Christine Denny running all tap classes personally. Christine is the Director, Creator and Chief Examiner for Tapatak Oz – a modern twist on the traditional tap syllabus that has been offering examinations Australia wide for the past 10 years. So – hold on to your hats everyone – Studio 53 will be buzzing from April 14th  – 16th with tap dance and contemporary dance rocking the halls.
