What is it about dance that we love and appreciate when we watch a performance, be it on stage in a theatre, on television, youtube or even in the studio?  It is the simple clean precision and fluidity of movement performed by the dancer.

What looks so simple however at first glance is on retrospection the result of many years of hard work.  It is a ‘package deal’ of many small parts skilfully connected to form a whole.

‘The devil is in the detail’ is an idiom that refers to a catch or mysterious element hidden in the details. Something that might seem simple at first but will take more time and effort to complete than expected.

Details are important!!!

The sensitivity of the fingertips, connection of steps, hands and eyeline, tracking of feet and arms, a lift of the eyes, a hint of a smile….so many things are to be considered and then slowly added, layer by layer, to help connect the dancer to his/her movements and thus connecting the dancer to the audience.

This Term is the beginning of many competitions and examinations that are being held throughout our region so let this be a small incentive to really think about what you are to perform and how you can improve upon it for the betterment of yourself and your audience.

Wishing you all the best.

‘Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.’   Mother Teresa.
